FLOODS IN NEPAL, AUGUST 2026
On 26 August 2026, a massive torrent of water and mud, caused by the collapse of a glacier on the Tibetan side, swept through the densely populated valley of the Bhotekoshi River in Nepal. Sadly, we have all seen the horrific images on television and in the newspapers.
As of today, 28 August, we are still in a state of total emergency, with homes, roads and bridges swept away; only the rescue teams are at work, hoping to save as many lives as possible…
However, many friends are asking us if there is anything they can do to help, and this makes us immensely grateful: we have therefore decided to launch a fundraising campaign.
At present, however, we are unable to say how the funds raised will be used: only once the initial emergency phase is over will it be possible to assess this, together with our volunteers, monks and local supporters. Everything will also depend on when road links can be restored.
During another major emergency in Nepal – the 2015 earthquake – thanks to the aid raised, we distributed food, blankets, clothes, shoes, tents, waterproof tarpaulins, medicines and sheets of metal for rebuilding roofs to various villages and in Kathmandu.
It is possible that this will be the case on this occasion too… or perhaps we will be able to help rebuild a school or a healthcare centre… In any case, as always, 100 per cent of the aid will go to helping the affected communities, in the best possible way.
