The Tibetan monasteries we support in India and Nepal take in hundreds of children who have no family or come from very difficult family circumstances, providing them with food, accommodation, education and medical care, as well as the precious peace education that is characteristic of Buddhism.
The financial commitment is considerable, and the cost of food is a major factor: the monasteries purchase large quantities of rice, flour, lentils, vegetables, oil, tea and salt.
In recent years, the prices of basic commodities have soared in both India and Nepal, due to the global energy crisis and the sharp decline in the purchasing power of the local currency (-30–40% in Nepal).
The monasteries are finding it increasingly difficult to cover their basic expenses: we have therefore decided to launch a new, ongoing project specifically aimed at helping to cover the cost of purchasing basic foodstuffs for the young monks.
In Nepal, the total daily cost of meals for each child (breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea and snacks during ceremonies) is around €1.30; in India, it is €1.36.
By donating to this project, you will help the monasteries to continue their work, which is vital not only for the young monks under their care but also for the preservation of the precious teachings of the Buddha in his country of origin!
